What can I expect on my first doctor’s appointment?

Between week 6 and 9 of pregnancy, it’s important for you to visit your gynecologist for your first prenatal check-up. During this visit, you will undergo an ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy, receive an approximate due date, and your medical history will be gathered to rule out any diseases, allergies, and obtain all the necessary information.

Additionally, during this initial appointment, your doctor will measure your blood pressure and weight, and it’s possible they will conduct blood and urine tests to determine your blood type, hemoglobin level, and detect any potential urinary infections, among other things.

It’s important to remember that even though the estimated due date can give you an idea of when your baby will be born, in most cases, little ones decide to arrive earlier or later than that date. Therefore, the estimated due date will only be an approximation. It’s normal for babies to be born between week 38 and 42, with a few days of leeway before or after the estimated date.

Feeling a mix of emotions and nerves during your first prenatal check-up is completely normal. It’s a very special day! During this appointment, it’s officially confirmed that your baby is in your uterus, ready to begin its development.
